This past month was all about film festivals and premier nights. My company, Sunrise Seagull Productions, was a proud sponsor of the red carpet event for How to Fight in Six Inch Heels US premier, Newport Beach Film Festival Chinese Spotlight, as well as the Viet Film Fest.
How to Fight in Six Inch Heels, world premiered on Oct 13, 2013, is equal parts sisterhood, Viet Kieu, chick flick and romantic comedy. It soared into the hearts of audiences across Vietnam making it the number one film there for three consecutive weeks. It is directed by Ham Tran and distributed by Wave Releasing.
Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2 was supposed to be the Newport Beach Film Festival Chines Spotlight on April 27, 2015. Unfortunately due to a technical issue, the film was changed to something else so I wasn’t able to watch the film. Bummer as I’m a big fan of Louis Koo.
Another event I thoroughly enjoyed was the Viet Film Fest. Being a Vietnamese, I always want to support the Vietnamese filmmaking community. Unfortunately, most Vietnamese films are being released in Vietnam and proper distribution channels for oversea audience are very limited so Viet Film Fest was a great opportunity for me to catch up with my fellow filmmakers and their films.
Of course, it’s hard to forget seeing Suboi, Vietnam’s queen of hip hop, performing live. Great stage presence. And meeting actress Kieu Chinh and stars of the film Huong Ga, Truong Ngoc Anh and Kim Ly, was the highlight of the month.
