VIETNAMESE FILM “5 STEPS OF LOVE” AIMS TO WIDEN THE APPEAL OF VIETNAMESE CINEMA AND MAKES A HUGE IMPRINT BY OPENING IN THEATERS ON THE SAME DAY ACROSS 5 U.S. CITIES
“5 Steps of Love,” a witty and heartwarming Vietnamese romantic comedy, aspires to break the mold of past Vietnamese film releases, and takes a bold step to win over the hearts of Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese audiences alike as it opens in theaters on August 18th across 5 U.S. cities.
Huntington Beach, California (July 24, 2017) – The Vietnamese film, “5 Steps of Love,” the directorial debut of Vu Ngoc Phuong, starring Jun Vu and B. Tran, will make its way to U.S. theaters August 18, 2017, opening in 5 cities throughout California – Garden Grove, San Jose, Irvine, Alhambra, and San Diego.
Aiming to expand outside of the traditional U.S. cities that most Vietnamese films have opened up in the past, “5 Steps of Love” takes a bold step by playing in cities, such as Irvine and Alhambra, that do not have a significant Vietnamese population compared to Garden Grove, San Jose and San Diego. With a talented cast that easily appeals to the pan-Asian community, the film has already received notable accolades throughout Asia for its witty and heart-warming story.
“5 Steps of Love” won the the prestigious Silver Kite for Best Picture at the 2016 Golden Kite Awards, and Vu Ngoc Phuong took home the Golden Kite for Best Director, actress Jun Vu garnered the Golden Kite for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and actress Quynh Chi won Best Supporting Actress. The Golden Kite Awards is widely perceived as Vietnam’s equivalent of the Oscars. Moreover, both Jun Vu and B. Tran took home the Best Actress and Best Actor at Faces of the Year 2015 right after the film’s Vietnam debut that year.
Lead actor B. Tran, director Vu Ngoc Phuong, as well as the film’s producer, Hang Trinh of Skyline Media, are scheduled to walk the red carpet of the the film’s U.S. premiere, which will be held at Edwards Irvine Spectrum on Thursday, August 17, 2017. The film is produced by Skyline Media and distributed in North America by Sunrise Seagull Productions.
“U.S. theatrical release for Vietnamese films are difficult, evident in that they are far and few in between. Some of it is due to the inability of a film to cross-over, while others struggle to secure strong marketing and distribution support, which are both challenges most indepedent foreign films face. Our team is driven to help boldly widen the distribution channels for Vietnamese films and actively support films, like ‘5 Steps of Love,’ that have unique cross-over appeal and a strong storyline,” said Thien A. Pham, President of Sunrise Seagull Productions.
“This is indeed a challenge for such a micro-budget Vietnamese film but we are proud and confident that the film can be considered as the representative for the voice of young-generation filmmakers in Vietnam to tell stories about modern life in this country. We hope that the film will be warmly welcomed by the Vietnamese community as well as American people who love to explore how much Vietnam is developing,” said Hang Trinh, General Manager of Skyline Media.
Red carpet night is sponsored in part by Lotus by Johnny Dung. General screening ticket giveaway promotions are sponsored in part by YEO’S.
